The features of this model home are as follows:
Encouraging awareness and making more informed and conscious choices about
environmental sustainability is what the demonstration home is all about.
And Digiconcepts was contacted for the challenge. HAI was immediately
selected for it's energy saving capabilities.
Electrical conservation is obtained by setting the high light levels in the
UPB dimmers themselves from 100% to 95%. Not only lowering electrical
consumption but extending lamp life. Exterior lights turn on at sunset
decreasing energy consumption further by not having lights turn on at 4pm in
the summer.
Rain water is collected and stored in the underground cistern. Watering
requirements are regulated by the moisture sensor buried underground. Only
then will the cistern pump activate and feed water to the sprinkler system.
Several programming lines test for ground moisture and water levels in the
cistern before cycling the 12 irrigation zone.
By far the greatest energy conservation is from gas. Setting the
thermostats based on occupancy, heating & cooling is set when occupied. When
there are no occupants in the home, heating & cooling systems are set back
accordingly. Lowering the blinds and opening the skylight automatically
when internal temperatures begin to rise allow the home to stay cooler,
longer, during those hot summer days before having to activate the cooling
system.
