New Orleans, LA
HAI, the leading manufacturer of home
automation systems since 1985, will team with BellSouth Residential Solutions to
demonstrate the benefits of home automation as part of the 2001 Dream Home
Showcase of Carpenter Village, a residential development in Cary, North
Carolina.
"BellSouth invited us to partner with them
in the Dream Home Showcase to illustrate the many benefits of home automation
technology," explains HAI President, Jay McLellan. "For instance, a
homeowner can access his home automation system over the phone or Internet to
adjust lights and temperatures, arm or disarm the security system, or simply
view their children or property through a video camera that transmits the images
to their hand held PDA or office PC. Additionally the system can initiate a
phone call, instant message, or email to a homeowner based on a household event,
such as the kids have arrived home from school, or the alarm has gone off."
The development of Carpenter Village consists of
900 attached and detached residential units priced from the mid $100,000 range
up to $1 million. "BellSouth Residential Solutions sees Carpenter Village
as a prime example of the traditional American neighborhood, but with all of the
benefits technology can provide," states Tom Gentle, BellSouth National
Sales Manager. "HAI provides the final piece of the puzzle for residents
who take advantage of BellSouth's Digital Passport Service."
The BellSouth Digital Passport Service is a
wiring system that integrates a home's communications, for shared computer and
Internet connections, and distribution of a video signal to the entire house,
which prevents the need for a DVD or VCR at each TV. Combining the Digital
Passport Service from BellSouth with the home automation controller and
accessories from HAI allows a homeowner to coordinate the lighting, security,
and temperature of their home with the added benefit of telephone and Internet
access. The result is improved comfort, convenience, safety, and energy savings
for homeowners at a fraction of what the technology previously cost.
The eight homes that are part of the Dream Home
Showcase of Carpenter Village will be open to the public from May 5th until May
20th. An estimated 25,000 interested homebuyers are expected to tour the homes
and experience the home automation demonstration.
HAI products are sold through its worldwide
network of Distribution Partners and installed by over 1000 trained dealers. For
